The Reason Why I Hate The Movie New York

Yes I hate this movie. Even though I haven't even seen this movie but already based on trailers and songs I hate it completely. It looks and sounds completley stupid and idiotic.

My biggest problem with this movie is its premise of a story on events post 9/11 and its effect on the muslims living there and how it affects the charracters in the movie. I am sorry but bollywood should never attempt serious matters like this. Seeing the trailer is enough for me to know that this is complete waste of time.

Even if the movie was well made the sheer hypocracy of bollywood making a story about human rights abuse in another country is too much for me. Bollywood has always depicted a popular view of the general population of India which is that if a person has been caught accused of a serious crime than it is perfectly fine to torture him and beat him up untill he accepts his crime and gives up all the information that he has. I mean its not even an issue here and a normal practice. A recent movie A wednesday is a prime example of such attitude which seems to advocate even extra judicial killings, very clearly indicated in an idiotic dialogue at the end which says "one person had the guts to do something abou it" Arghhhhhh. Simillarly Rang De Basanti - If the politician is corrupt just shoot him! ya sure problem solved. So bollywood has no right to take high ground in the incidents that take place abroad in another country. I mean the intentions are good and we do need a movie to educate people that no matter what the situation, compromising on basic human rights will never solve any problem and it will always lead to the prosecution of innocent civilians but coming from bollywood and that too based in a foreign country it does seem a bit hypocritical. Although to be fair with Kabir Khan, the director of this film its not his fault that other b'wood directors brazenly depict human rights violations as a solution to the problems of our nation.

So in short bollywood taking on serious matters like terrorism and its effects on human rights of the minoritis + college love story based in the USA involving three actors dancing around (two of which can't act if their life depended on it) + local extras laughing or smiling when on camera + hindi-english mixed dialogues without getting the accent right of a person living in the US all his life + melodramatic preaching speeches by chracters as if reading out an address to the nation in the middle of the movie (although I don't know this movie has this or not) + all the bollywood superficialness of pretty people dancing around in pretty places = Disaster.

I am also very annoyed with the recent trend of basing the entire story of the movie in the US. In this movie there is a reason for it as it is based on the events after 9/11 and illegal detention of suspects but movies like KANK and Dostana could have been easily filmed entirely in India with chracters living in India and it would have been much more effective that way. It seems like the directors and actors pick their destination for holiday and show us their holiday video as movie and we are supposed to watch that?
